Oprah's weight gain/Whose fault is it??

By now everyone has heard Oprah Winfrey has gained back the weight she lost and hit the big 200. I have been reading other trainer's blogs and articles on this to get different points of view about this issue of regaining weight and weight management.

What it really show me is that you can have the best team of health and fitness professionals in your stable but it doesn't matter if you are not accountable to yourself. People cannot do the exercise or prevent you from eating poorly. It's up to you. All trainer, nutritionists, and life coaches do is draw a good road map so it is clear on how to arrive at your destination(goal).

I know alot of people like Oprah and I believe she has done alot of good things for people but don't make excuses for what happened, take ownership of the problem.

It pisses me off that people are actually blaming Bob Green and Jorge Cruise for failing her. What BS! Those people can't hold a gun to her head and prevent her from eating poorly. She is a billionaire who can have her meals prepared for her and can afford to train with a trainer daily. So don't blame them. She has more ability to get it done than the majority of us. I know people who get it done daily and don't make excuses.

I really don't like it when people bitch about not losing weight but don't want to log the their food in journal. This is what it takes, people. If you do not want to do it than don't bitch when the results don't come. Honestly, you won't remember what you ate if you don't track it. Every time I get this complaint and finally I get these people to honestly fill out a food log, there are several poor choices and erratic patterns of eating that shows they aren't getting it done with their nutrition plan. Another example is skipping workouts. People tend to have every excuse in the book for blowing off a workout. When they only get to the gym 1-2 times a week that is not getting it done either. Trainers and coaches are usually only with them 1-3 hours per week. The other 165 hours are their responsibility and if they aren't doing what needs to be done it is their fault.

Whose fault is it Oprah regained her weight? Hers and she has owned it (she admitted eating whatever she wanted)which I respect and hopefully she can use this experience to help others avoid the same problem. I'm just sick of people always blaming others for their lack of success and not owning it themselves.

Everyone Needs An Outlet!!

Boy, everywhere we turn these days there is bad news. The economy sucks, people are losing their jobs, we are in two wars, and there is no hope in sight!! It can really bog a person down and suck your energy like a vacuum leaving you drained, depressed and unmotivated.

I was there the other day. I felt down had a bad attitude and was felling stressed about various thing going on with my life. This was Sunday and I didn't exercise that day because it is usually a family day. Come Monday I was still feeling anxious and stressed. Well, I went to do my workout and once I started to lift weights and get into it the stress and anxiety went away , I started to draw energy and feel stronger on the inside. When I was done I felt 100% better. This reminded of the number one reason that I do exercise. Not for my physical health but for my mental health.

I know so many people who are constantly in this stressed out mind set 24/7. Pretty much all of them do little if anything for exercise. There seems to be a correlation between the two. If you do not have a good outlet that stress will just keep building and building and building until it eats you alive!!

It is so important to have something to release your stress on. I can't tell you how many times a client has come in after a bad day and we hit and threw things and they felt better afterwards. It's therapeutic. Really if you are in that state right now, look at what you are doing for any type of release. If it is alcohol or food probably not a good choice but if you are exercising or doing something active that helps you mange stress then cudos to you.

The thing we have to remember is that exercise is not always about sets, reps, bodyfat percentage and heart monitors. It is really about being apiece of a complete wellness package and helping you not only become strong physically but stay strong mentally!!

Resolutions are a recipe for failure

Well, the New Year is here and everyone is on their resolution kick. Weight loss is one of the biggest New Year's resolutions but sadly 97% of people who make these resolutions fail by February.

The weight loss industry has launched a huge campaign filled with rip off gadgets that claim you can be lazy ass and lose weight have hit the market with a storm. Check them out at this link
http://inventorspot.com/weight_loss_for_the_lazy

Come on are your serious? Can you sit on your ass and lose weight? Do you really believe it? If you do then WAKE UP. There are no magic pills gadgets or diets. It is hard work and discipline do not kid yourself!

The reason most of these resolutions fail is that people set these goals WITHOUT A PLAN.
If you were going on a driving vacation to California would you just get out and start driving? I don't think so unless you are a complete idiot or know how to get there. You would look at a map and plot a course.

This is exactly what most people don't do when it comes to exercise and nutrition. They do not plot a course. They shoot from the hip. Which gets them poor results resulting in giving into failure over and over.

You need to develop a workable plan that moves you towards your goals. How many times will you strength train, do cardio? How and what things do you need to be eating. When do you change your program up. How do I measure if the program is working. These questions must all be addressed in a complete plan. You also need someone to be accountable to as well. We generally do not do well being accountable to ourselves.

So for 2009 don't make resolutions. Instead make goals with action plans. If you have trouble with developing this get with your trainer. Ask for help? "I can do this on my own" doesn't work well. It's no different than having someone help you plan your finances, do your taxes or fix your car.

We are having a great seminar January 24th called "How To Make 2009 Your Best Year Ever" it will address steps and tools for being successful in 2009. Check out our special website where you can register at www.lakevillechallenge.com. Come and listen to 5 speakers on fitness, health, and finances address topics that we all struggle with. It could be the kick in the butt you need.
